The captain of the ship that transported Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika to the mainland where the Hunter Examination was held was an unnamed, absent figure during the official exam. He was the first hired examiner of the Hunter Association. Only the three main characters were able to pass the first test of the storm and receive the Captain's hint about the path to the Navigators. When Gon was able to accurately predict the approach of a major storm, despite never having been on a ship in the open sea before, the Captain recognized him as the son of Ging Freecss, who had sailed on the same ship many years ago.
