Professor who lectures about time travel in the first episode of the anime. In reality, he is Doctor Shōichi Makise, Kurisu's father. Due to his deep jealousy of his daughter's talents, with whom he has had a strained relationship for many years, he stole her work on creating a time machine and passed it off as his own. Later, he fled to Russia and based on future records of the time machine, he created it, which gives rise to World War III in the Beta timeline. He revealed that he and Yukitaka Akiha (Faris' father) were students of Suzuha Amane, and the three of them were engaged in time machine research. Shōichi changed his surname to Nakabachi, his mentor's name, to continue the research without fear of organizations working on the same thing. Nakabachi loved Kurisu and was very proud of her immense intellect. However, as soon as Kurisu became interested in his work, she began to study this field independently and soon surpassed him in many ways. When she was eleven years old, the girl was able to refute his theory about the time machine, which embarrassed the man. He severed all ties with her and never gave her birthday gifts after the age of eleven. He later confessed to Yukitaka that he deeply regretted this. After all this, he was filled with greater determination to construct the time machine.
