Kyon's classmate and friend. He was in the same middle school as Haruhi. Together with Kunikida, he plays in small episodes of the film "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina - Episode 00", where they hardly speak. He is friends with Kunikida, and they are usually always together. He looks comically "preoccupied", he has his own personal rating of the attractiveness of schoolgirls, in which each first-year high school student (approximately 10th grade in Russia) occupies a certain place. Since he knew Haruhi in middle school, Kyon, before he spoke to her, received most of the information about Haruhi from Taniguchi.
