Junko Sakuraba is an English teacher at a language school in Tokyo. She dreams of a fairy-tale life abroad, but the reality is more cruel - she is 27 and completely alone. Her family, believing this to be a deplorable situation, arranged an omiai (an arranged marriage meeting) for the young woman with Takane Hoshikawa, a monk at a Buddhist temple. However, the prospective son-in-law turns out to be a monk who dreams of a peaceful and respectable wife who will joyfully share his serene "sacred" life. Junko, frightened by this onslaught, responds with a categorical refusal, but the monk is not about to give up so easily.
